Adventures on the A Train (If only One Train Later)

Adventures on the A Train (If only One Train Later)I ride the "A" Train nearly every day...some days to work and some days just to get around the city. Being that it is only a block and a half from the apartment it seems that this is in fact the best mode of transport.

The problem is trying to read on a busy train. I have yet to learn how to block out guys like (reformed) crack-head Chris and the other fools / Jesus freaks / bums / pan-handlers / waste-oids / etc. on the train. My ride to work is about 35 minutes, in that time I should be able to knock out a few pages of whatever book I'm reading (One Train Later currently)...but I can't seem to block the sounds of the NYC subway out.

Today on my ride home I asked the nice woman next to me how she can read while crack-head Chris (I see him every other day) is screaming "If I can be a good crackhead, I can be a good Christian." and on and on about Jesus saving me and the other passengers from our sorry ass lives. Much to my surprise she has the same problem, reading the same sentence over and over again until said freak shuts up or gets off the train. I asked her how long she has been trying to learn to block these people out...her whole life she said...a real New Yorker.

I love the half an hour a day each way that I get to read, I just need to buy some ear plugs I guess.
